WhatsApp upcoming features: Communities, file sharing up to 2GB and more will launch in 2022

Instant-messaging app WhatsApp has over 400 million users in India. The meta-owned app introduces new features in a regular interval to enhance user experience. Now, WhatsApp is reportedly planning to roll out five important features this year. Apart from that, WhatsApp has spotted testing many new features that may get released in the near future after they pass through the final testing.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has also talked about the upcoming WhatsApp features and said, “Our messaging services are built around one-to-one text messaging — and that will stay the core of what we do. But we’ve also been working on building out the next generation of private messaging. With a focus on privacy, safety and security, we’ve added video chats, voice messages, stories, commerce, payments and more to WhatsApp and Messenger. With today’s launch, we’re taking this further and enabling people to not only communicate with close friends and contacts, but also with all of the different communities in their lives.”

Let’s take a look at some of the upcoming features of WhatsApp.

WhatsApp Communities

WhatsApp Communities is one of the most anticipated feature. The feature will allow users to keep separate groups in one place. Community feature is said to be like a private place where group admins will have more control over some groups on WhatsApp. Admins of the Communities can gather other groups in one place and will get special rights such as announcement messages that are sent to everyone.

Admins of the Communities will also gain control over which groups can be included. For example, Communities feature can help a School Principal to bring all the parents of the school together to share must-read updates and set up groups about specific classes, extracurricular activities, or volunteer needs. This WhatsApp feature is currently being tested and will roll it out in the coming days.

WhatsApp users can now share files up to 2GB

WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new feature that will allow users to send up to files with the size up to 2GB. This feature is being tested in the beta version with select users in Argentina. WhatsApp has confirmed its global launch. Currently, WhatsApp allows users to send up to 100MB of files to their friends.

WhatsApp audio calls will support 32 members

According to reports, WhatsApp may soon allow users to make group audio call with up to 32 members. Currently, WhatsApp users are allowed to make audio calls with up to 8 members. However, the audio calling feature will witness a shift by the end of this year.

WhatsApp group admins will get more power

WhatsApp will give more control to the group admins in the days to come. Group admins will get the power to delete messages that are not fit for the group.
